Dance With Me

Dance With Me (I Want To Be Your Partner)

I remember hearing this 1975 song by the group, “Orleans” for the first time. It’s one of those classics that the minute you hear it, you’re singing along! The lyrics to this timeless tune are below but it is in essence a sweet, rhythmic love song with great acoustics…

Dance with me, I want to be your partner

Can’t you see? The music is just starting

Night is calling

And I am falling

Dance with me.

One of the many things that I found attractive about my husband from our beginnings was his willingness to not only go to the dance floor but also, stay on it with me as I love to dance!

Bob and I grew up loving the soul music of the 60’s. Give us most anything by Motown, Aretha (THE Queen!), Smokey Robinson, Al Green's “Let's Stay Together or “At Last” by Etta James and I can guarantee we were on the dance floor at any event!

Now young people reading this...when I say 'dancing' I’m not talking about booty dropping, high kick, robotic shenanigans! I’m talking about old fashioned, ‘hold you close because I love you and want to be near you' dancing! (Hope you’re laughing here!)

There were so many times when Bob and I would end up not just dancing on the dance floor, but also…kissing (how scandalous!) all the while the music playing and us unaware of anyone or anything surrounding us!

Over the course of our long and blessed marriage my husband has unfortunately suffered from health issues that led to (way too many) back surgeries, and so he is no longer able to take the dance floor with the same enthusiasm as he once did. Nonetheless, I have a lifetime of memories from the days when we danced as though no one else was in the room.

Do you have a dance partner? If so, take a little advice because, “Nana Knows” …Turn off the television, put your phone down...in fact, turn it off too, say goodnight to the kids, turn the lights down low and download some real dance tunes…the kind that make you hold on to each other!
